Looking for a Killer Direct Box? The bandwidth & low end punch of the Little Labs Multi Z DI along with its flexibility is unsurpassed. Compare with all the other HI end tube & solid state Direct Boxes and find out why the Multi Z DI is the choice of engineers in the know. |
The Little Labs Multiple Z Direct Box is a revolutionary audiophile direct box designed to extract the full tone and dynamics from musical instruments. The Z stands for impedance. Impedance is the most important, but often overlooked variable in obtaining the fullest, clearest, open sound from an electronic musical instrument. The Little Labs Multiple Z Direct Box allows you to select between four different Input stage circuits each optimized for a different source impedance. It is like having four different types of direct boxes built into one. But there is more. The Mid-Z position allows you to isolate the ground on the input (unheard of on a direct box) as well as lift the output XLR ground. The pad on the Direct Box is a 21 position Alpsstepped attenuator. Outputs include a balanced mic / line, an unbalanced line, and a buffered out, tapped directly off the first stage (can be used as a guitar line driver). Output levels clip at +26db for the unbalanced out and +32db on the balanced outputs. Bicolor LEDs indicate clipping on both the input and output stages, eliminating any overload clipping guess work. On the rare occasion when overload clipping does occur the Little Labs Multiple Z Direct Box, using the latest in field effect transistor technology, will generate predominantly the more musical even order harmonics. The Little Labs Multiple Z Direct Box, unlike other "convenient" direct boxes, does not use batteries nor does it use phantom power. Whaaa? This might seem an odd omission with all the other convenient features given. The reasons for this are simple, power and current requirements of a high resolution audio circuit are more than the typical 9 volt battery can supply, and phantom powering with its 2ma maximum @ 48v DIN specification will only barely power even the compromised low current operational amplifiers. The power supply used is a 48 volt regulated @ 100ma outboard low impedance type. The "inconvenience" of this power supply is greatly outweighed by the outstanding sonics it helps provide. I always hear when Bass players demo this unit, comments such as "for the first time I can here the bottom note of my five string bass" or, "I thought my tube DI had bottom, the Multi Z seems warmer, punchier and has more bottom, you sure you don't have a tube hidden in there?
